Definition
LIRIC is the result of the integration of research institutions and facilities dedicated to basic and clinical research, development, and innovation in the field of lipid metabolism and its implications for human health.
The core of LIRIC consists of three main nodes located in Reus: the Clinical Node at the University Hospital of Sant Joan, the Basic Research Node at Rovira i Virgili University, and the Metabolomics and Artificial Intelligence Node at the company Biosfer Teslab.

Vision
LIRIC builds on the already existing R+D+I facilities focused on lipid metabolism and its impact on health and disease. It leverages the coexisting teams from the hospital, university, and biotech sectors—well established in Reus—to generate added scientific and technological value. LIRIC aspires to become an internationally recognized leading organization in scientific and technological progress in the field of lipid metabolism, its alterations, and their clinical consequences, including cardiovascular and systemic metabolic diseases.

Mission
Diseases associated with lipid metabolism disorders are leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and this trend is expected to continue over the next 25 years.
Our mission is to generate and disseminate scientific knowledge to improve both the quality and quantity of life. We aim to create, provide, and transfer knowledge, technology, and skills to healthcare professionals, social organizations, and pharmaceutical and biotech companies committed to global health through the prevention and treatment of lipid‑related cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
To achieve these goals, we will strengthen collaboration in education, research, development, and innovation among the lipid-focused health, academic, and enterprise sectors present in Reus, generating added value and driving excellence. We seek internationalization and global recognition.
